“I would start Thursday. Sunday night the withdrawals would kick in. Cold sweats, body aches, weird half-awake sleep with crazy nightmares. Monday hungover, Tuesday hungover, Wednesday, the closest to normal. Then it's Thursday. Here we go again.
Eventually I got sick of being sick.
My wife got sick of me being sick.
We had kids and I knew then that it was time to stop, so that's what I did.”
