Sharlene's Story

Sharlene

It's a Wonderful Program

While caring for a newborn, raising a 5-year-old and struggling with postpartum depression, Sharlene needed a place that offered treatment without judgement.

Admittedly, she knew very little about Ontario Shores and its Shoppers LOVE. YOU. Women’s Clinic before arriving for her first appointment. But, it didn’t take long for her to feel as though she was in the right place.

“They weren’t there to judge,” says Sharlene. “They were there to help.”
Sharlene previously struggled with mental health issues, but it was nothing compared to what she experienced after giving birth.

“I didn’t feel like anyone understood what I was going through,” she says. “I was very emotional and would get extremely angry.”

“When you are in a state of anxiety and depression and then something happens, you just crumble.”

With the support she received through the Women’s Clinic, Sharlene learned skills and tools to help her manage her mental health. After 12 months of regular support from the Women’s Clinic, Sharlene has now been discharged and can appreciate the progress she has made.

“I’ve come so far,” she says. “I’m better at coping with different situations and I feel like I am now a better mom.”

Looking to the future, Sharlene is committed to caring for herself and managing her mental health. She’s also eager to share her story in an effort to spark honest conversations among new mothers who may also be struggling.

“It’s a wonderful program,” she says. “People need to know about it.”
