Information for Visitors

Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores) is situated along the shores of Lake Ontario in the community of Whitby. We welcome family members to visit their loved ones and community members to stop by for a tour, to enjoy our beautiful grounds or attend one of our many events.

Visiting a Patient

In general, visiting hours for patients and their families and friends are from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., seven days a week. However, hours will vary depending on which unit your loved one is on (See Visiting Hours by Unit) as well the programs, groups and appointments he or she attends daily. It is always best to arrange your visit with unit staff so they can ensure your loved one is available and prepared for your visit.

Visitation policies and procedures also vary across each unit. Please check with unit staff regarding gifts, food or personal belongings you would like to bring for your loved one.

Visitors may be required to produce photo ID when signing into some of the units. Please be aware that cameras, video cameras or any other recording devices are not permitted.

There is an Information Desk in Building 5, Main Entrance that is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to assist you with directions, parking or general inquiries. If you are visiting after business hours or on weekends, Switchboard is available at all times and is located in Building 1, Admitting Entrance.
