Orientation
The length of orientation will vary depending on your role. All employees attend General Orientation on their first day. It begins at 8:00 a.m. in The Conference Place, which is just inside the Main Entrance (look for flagpoles). On that day you will have a tour of the hospital (wear comfortable shoes), and review and sign a few documents, which will be explained at that time. The afternoon is devoted to completing Mandatory Training Modules, which may be completed at home via e-learning.
For those who are newly starting in a Clinical role, Clinical Orientation lasts approximately 2 weeks, depending on your role. A full schedule is provided by our Human Resources team upon hire. Topics covered include Clinical Orientation, Meditech System Training, Safe Management Group (SMG) Training, and on-unit preceptorship.
The goal of the SMG Training Program is the early recognition and prevention of violent/aggressive behaviours through crisis prevention and crisis management. Note that every new employee, whether or not their role is clinical, attends some form of SMG training starting on the second day of orientation, the length of which will depend on how much patient contact their role requires.
