COVID-19:  Screening, updates and safety protocols:

Volunteer Q and A

How do I start this process?
The application is online. Just fill it out and submit it. We will email you back the information needed for next steps as well as a letter for a police check reduced rate.

Where do I go to get a police check?
Durham Region Police headquarters is located at 605 Rossland Road East in Whitby and your police check can be processed there quickly. If you are from a different Region, please check your local listing for the Police Headquarters.

How much will a Police Check cost me?
With the reduced rate letter that was sent to you in the welcome package the cost will be $20.00

How long do I have to wait to be a volunteer?
It takes on average 4-6 weeks to have you on-boarded. You must submit all your paperwork first (Police check and 2 references), then attend a one on one interview and then complete workplace safety modules. After that you will attend Orientation and SMG training, then we wait for clearance from your blood work and TB screening to come back from Occupational Health.

What will I be doing as a volunteer?
We have various jobs, and various opportunities. More details are discussed at the time of Orientation so that placement is more realistic. You can be pleased in the Drop In Centre while you wait for an opportunity to open up so you will be engaged as soon as your cleared.

Are there any Research positions?
We do have research positions, which are a separate interview and acceptance process. You will need to first be on-boarded as a volunteer, and then submit a C.V. to volunteer services who will then pass it onto the Research and Academics dept.
