Students from Dunbarton High School and Pickering High School held a mental health awareness evening on December 1.  Local television personality and Chair of Ontario Shores Foundation for Mental Health, Dan Carter, shared his personal story to raise both awareness for mental illness and money for the hospital.

Representing Pickering’s Destination ImagiNation team, students from both high schools tackled the challenge of raising awareness and funds for mental health issues.  The goal was to get as many parents and students out to the event in order to make them aware of the early signs of mental illness in youth.  The evening also featured draws for an iPod and Toronto Maple Leafs tickets and raised over $600.  All of the money will go toward Ontario Shores Foundation for Mental Health and fundraising will continue into the spring when the team will present their challenge to the Durham District School Board.
