Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores) is pleased to announce the appointment of Sanaz Riahi to the role of Vice-President, Practice, Academics and Chief Nursing Executive. Ms. Riahi joined Ontario Shores in 2009 and has held progressive leadership roles including her most recent position as the Senior Director, Professional Practice and Clinical Information.
“Sanaz is a patient-focused leader with the ability to establish practices that enhance the recovery environment. She creates collaborative team environments based on excellence, inclusivity, autonomy and trust and is deeply committed to advancing the mental health care system,” says Karim Mamdani, President and CEO. “I look forward to welcoming her to the Senior Management Team and the positive impact she will continue to have on the care we provide our patients.”
Her recent accomplishments include leading Ontario Shores in the achievement of HIMSS Davies Award of Excellence, HIMSS EMRAM Stage7 revalidation, placing Ontario Shores as the first hospital in Canada to receive these awards in recognition of its Electronic Health Record System. Other key activities where she has provided corporate leadership includes recovery-oriented initiatives, implementation of a patient portal in mental health care, and implementation of clinical practice guidelines leveraging technology.
Ms. Riahi works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, maximizing the use of technology, to support, promote and advance quality interprofessional practice environment to optimize outcomes for patients, staff and the organization.
“I am excited to embark on the next chapter of my career at an organization that shares my passion for quality mental health care and encourages patients to be equal partners in their care,” says Ms. Riahi. “I look forward to working closely with patients, families, clinical teams across the hospital to advance the practice of recovery-focused care for our communities.”
Ms. Riahi is an active researcher and educator who has done numerous presentations and has publications in the areas of nursing education, the minimization of seclusion and restraint and the implementation of Clinical Practice Guidelines. She has received numerous individual and team awards for her clinical achievements and nursing leadership including the 2015 Emerging Leader in Health Informatics Award, Canadian Health Informatics Award, COACH.
She is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry at University of Toronto and is currently completing her PhD studies at University of Central Lancashire in UK.
Ms. Riahi starts her new role effective August 6.
