Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores) is proud to announce it has been recognized by Excellence Canada for its commitment to wellness in the workplace.

Excellence Canada, an independent, not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to advancing organizational performance across Canada, oversees a national recognition program that recognizes organizations from all industries who demonstrate excellence in one of their three standards or frameworks.  Ontario Shores earned Gold Level recognition following a review against the Mental Health at Work® Framework.

“It’s a tremendous honour that both recognizes and celebrates our commitment to a psychologically safe and healthy workplace,” notes Karim Mamdani, President and CEO at Ontario Shores, a specialty mental health hospital in Whitby, Ontario.

Excellence Canada visited Ontario Shores earlier this year to hold focus groups with the Senior Management Team, managers, direct service staff and teams to learn about the organization’s work and how it aligns to Excellence Canada’s national framework.

In its evaluation, Excellence Canada highlighted the development and implementation of Ontario Shores’ Integrated Wellness Plan as well as its employee engagement activities, recovery oriented approach to patient care and the hospital’s overall work environment.

Excellence Canada honoured organizations today at their 2017 Performance Excellence Summit and Canada Awards for Excellence event in Toronto.

“This recognition not only validates our efforts in the area of workplace wellness, but it highlights the commitment across the organization to building and maintaining a positive culture,” says Mamdani. “Everyone at Ontario Shores can be proud of their contribution toward advancing mental health in the workplace.”
