Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores) has been named a Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Top Employer for the seventh straight year.
Following a competition that evaluated the work environment, vacation benefits, training and development, financial and health benefits, the physical environment, and community involvement, Ontario Shores was recognized as a GTA Top Employer for 2023.
Karim Mamdani, President and CEO, expressed his excitement and gratitude, saying, “We are pretty delighted and appreciative.” Because our staff plays a vital role in delivering care and administration to help patients in need of mental health care in our community and beyond, “knowing that we provide our employees with a workplace that is recognized with this notable distinction is reassuring and important.”
Highlighted in the GTA Top Employer evaluation was the Innovation Fund program at Ontario Shores. The Innovation Fund inspires staff to go beyond their traditional roles to improve the experience of staff, patients and family members at Ontario Shores. Specifically noted in the evaluation was the establishment of Beez Kneez, a Therapeutic Sustainability Garden on the property created and maintained by staff to empower patients to grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers in an outdoor common space.
The evaluation also noted Ontario Shores’ commitment to building a diverse and inclusive workplace that advocates for and empowers its people. This commitment was highlighted throughout Ontario Shores’ latest Strategic Plan, which was developed following focus groups and facilitated discussions with organizational and community stakeholders.
Ontario Shores and its fellow recipients were officially unveiled in a special magazine in The Globe and Mail.
