Ontario Shores partners with CFS Durham to expand services for clients impacted by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

April 14, 2023 (Whitby, ON) - As the demand for trauma-based therapy services grows, Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores) and Catholic Family Services of Durham (CFSD) have agreed to a three-year partnership to expand services for clients experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

This partnership will ensure that over 400 clients receive timely access to care from the organization best suited to meet their needs. Clients with mild to moderate PTSD, for example, will be referred to the CFSD location, while those with more severe symptoms will be referred to the Ontario Shores Traumatic Stress Clinic (TSC). Cognitive processing therapy, an evidence-based treatment for PTSD, will be provided by trained staff at both facilities.

"Ontario Shores is pleased to collaborate with CFSD to assist over 400 clients in ensuring that people who have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) continue to receive the care and treatment they need, when and where they need it," says Karim Mamdani, President and CEO of Ontario Shores.

“CFSD is thrilled to be partnering with Ontario Shores for this project. This collaborative, strategic response to the need for trauma therapy is a community-focused, clinically sound way to respond to the growing demand for services, which leverages the strengths of both organizations for the sake of the people we serve,” says Elizabeth Pierce, Executive Director of Catholic Family Services of Durham.

This partnership is aligned with the province's Roadmap to Wellness and will reduce wait times,
improve access, and match clients with the most appropriate service depending on their level of need.
