Filmmaker and Educator
Shabnam is an award winning filmmaker and educator with a double major in Psychology and Sociology in her undergraduate studies, and a B. Ed in Special Education.
She pursued her interest in filmmaking by obtaining a three-year post graduate diploma in Cinema from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.
She has been practicing her filmmaking craft since 1996. She teaches courses in scriptwriting, film production, documentary filmmaking and Art History.
In the Masters of Fine Arts program at York University, Shabnam completed her deeply personal documentary titled “Unfinished”, inspired by her caregiving journey supporting her daughter’s mental health.
She is now pursuing her PhD in the Theatre and Performance Studies department at York University, where she will research the transformative power of performance in family therapy.
