Adolescent Outpatient Services

In partnership with our patients, Ontario Shores provides specialized recovery focused outpatient programs and services. The Adolescent outpatient program is an outpatient mental health assessment and treatment clinic for young people aged 12 to 18 living in Durham Region.  Referrals are preferred from physicians, pediatricians, nurse practitioners and psychiatrists. Individuals are offered a period of assessment, medication stabilization and/or evidence-informed individual, family or group intervention focusing on symptom management and improvement in function. The maximum duration of service is 16 weeks. 

Services include:

  • Assessment by Child and Adult Psychiatrist
  • Prompt Clinic Assessment - Specialized assessment, medication recommendations, illness education and recommendations for treatment options with a child and adolescent psychiatrist
  • DBT Comprehensive – An intensive therapy intervention for youth who are struggling with intense emotions, impulsive behaviors, self-harm/suicidal behavior, or problems in relationships.  Treatment focuses on reducing symptoms, maladaptive behaviors, and psychological distress by increasing coping skills and improving quality of life.
    • Age 14 - 18
    • Intervention includes: 
      • Weekly Individual Therapy
      • Multi-Family Skills Group
      • Phone Skills Coaching
  • DBT Informed – Individual therapy focused on supporting emotion regulation and distress tolerance through individual therapy and family skills group.
    • Age: 12 to 18
    •  Intervention Includes:
      • Weekly Individual Therapy
      • Family Skills Group
  • CBT – Individual and Group therapy is offered to support mood and anxiety disorders.  Family psycho-education is also provided to support youth’s individual treatment
    • Age: 12 to 18
    • Intervention Includes:
      • Weekly Individual Therapy
      • Caregiver psycho-education intervention
  • E-CBT with coaching
  • All therapy is time limited

  • Adolescents 12 to 18 years of age living in Durham Region (see above for details)
