Dual Diagnosis Service (DDS) is a 10-bed specialized inpatient unit at Ontario Shores. The unit provides in-depth assessment by an interprofessional team of professionals for intellectually disabled individuals with mental health disorders and/or challenging behaviours.
The DDS team is committed to a collaborative model of treatment that is based on best practice. Individualized programming includes life-skills, recreation, supportive counselling and group activities. Behavioural treatment is based on a functional assessment and includes the training and education of supporting family and community agencies.
Services include:
- Specialized interprofessional assessments
- Diagnostic clarification
- Medication review
- Individualized programming including life-skills, recreation, supportive counselling and group programming
- Behavioural assessment
- Family support, education and consultation
- Inclusion of community partners in planning and treatment
- Discharge planning
- Outreach services that include assessment, consultation, education and training, community links and support.
Age
For ages 18-65
Inclusion Criteria
Individuals must be between the ages of 18 and 65 years, have an intellectual developmental disorder in the mild to severe range (documentation may be required) that was identified prior to 12 years of age.
Service Access
Referrals are accepted from physicians and psychiatrists and will be based on clinical need.
