The Forensic Assessment Unit (FAU) is a 22-bed unit at Ontario Shores for patients referred by the court system who require a secure setting. An interprofessional healthcare team provides assessment of criminal responsibility and court-ordered treatment to determine if individuals are fit to stand trial.
Services include:
- Psychiatric assessment to assist the consideration of Ontario courts and in treatment planning
- Psychosocial assessment
- Psychological assessment
- Family assessment

Forensic patients are referred through the court system or under the jurisdiction of the ORB.
