The Women's Acute Stabilization Unit (WASU) at Ontario Shores is a 5-bed dedicated unit that supports female inmates with acute mental health needs.
In partnership with the Solicitor General and the Vanier Centre for Women, this service provides treatment within a hospital setting to those identified in corrections who are experiencing acute symptoms of psychosis. Individuals are supported by an interprofessional staffing model that provides behavioural interventions, counselling, psychological assessment and recreational activity in a therapeutic setting. Treatment includes both pharmacological and non-pharmacy resources available at Ontario Shores.
For ages 18 +
Patients are referred to this program through the Vanier Centre for Women and the Central East Correctional Centre.
