Maybe you’ve submitted a referral to Ontario Shores, or you may be interested in the services we offer and what to expect in the treatment for Bipolar Disorder. We know that recovery is possible in the treatment of Bipolar Disorder.

People experiencing Bipolar Disorder symptoms may not always want to seek help because of the stigma, or they may feel that they can address the issues on their own without the help of treatment. Getting support is helpful in understanding, managing and ultimately treating bipolar disorder.

Pushing past those barriers is a great milestone to help you on your recovery journey.

If your healthcare provider has submitted a referral, depending on the severity of your condition, you will either be referred to our outpatient or inpatient Services.

Treatment Overview

If you can be best supported by our outpatient services, you will be referred to one of our outpatient programs which include:

During your initial assessment which can be virtual or in-person, you may meet with a psychiatrist or nurse practitioner to complete a thorough assessment and to optimize your medication. Your therapist will work with you to develop a plan including monitoring your symptoms and/or participating in psychotherapy. Attendance and engagement in the treatment plan are expectations throughout your time in the program.

Inpatient Services

If you require inpatient services, you will access one of the complex general psychiatry units and work with an interprofessional team during your stay. During this time, the team will support you by:

  • Providing consultations with the psychiatrist
  • Providing medication to best treat your illness
  • Building/rebuilding life skills
