Concurrent Disorders - Treatment and Recovery

What can I expect from treatment for Concurrent Disorders at Ontario Shores

For many individuals with substance related issues, the hardest part in recovery is acknowledging the personal struggle with dependence.

At Ontario Shores, we understand recovering from addiction is difficult and we are here to help. Taking this step forward requires willpower, self-discipline and our Concurrent Disorders (CD) team will be there to support you every step of the way.

Sometimes therapy and treatment can bring up unpleasant emotions in the beginning and when difficult discussions arise. This is completely normal and our team will provide you with a treatment plan to help restore your mental health and well-being. The goal is to support you the entire way and help you feel better in the long term.

Our team will support you in achieving your goals whether it be complete abstinence or reducing the harm associated with your current behaviour as well as providing any additional support you may require along the way.

Program Overview

During the treatment program, you and your clinician will create a plan to address your mental health and addiction needs which may include:

  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy and/or
  • Online programming

What to Expect

Your first few appointments will involve you and your clinician getting to know each other and will include some intake forms and screening assessments. This will give your clinician a chance to best understand you, your needs and goals. It will also give you an opportunity to get comfortable with your clinician and develop a clear sense of what you will be doing in your work together.

The appointment is typically one hour in length and we will make every effort to accommodate individual schedules to make treatment as accessible as possible. We ask that you attend all scheduled appointments, except in the case of emergencies. Given the high demand for CD services, you may be discharged from the service if you miss three appointments without appropriate notice. We understand that unexpected situations arise and are happy to reschedule appointments with at least 24 hours notice.

Program Outcomes

Our team takes a client-centred approach to treatment, helping you make the change only when you are ready. This approach includes setting realistic goals with you and creating plans that involve dealing with triggers and using healthy coping strategies to live a more fulfilling life.
